A group of 36 players travelled to Bloemfontein after last Saturday’s Test victory over Argentina in Pretoria, and on Monday SA Rugby’s Director of Rugby, Rassie Erasmus, released four players to their provinces to play in the Currie Cup this weekend, namely Lizo Gqoboka, Thomas du Toit, André Esterhuizen and Marvin Orie.
The remaining 32 players in the squad were put through their paces at field training and in the gym, as the Boks continue to fine tune their preparations for the Rugby World Cup in Japan.
The RWC squad announcement event, which will be staged at Multichoice City in Randburg, starts at 15h00 and will televised live by SuperSport, as well as streamed live on the Springboks’ Facebook page.
A Springbok squad of 31 players will be announced during the live television event on Monday, and for the rest of the week the players will fine tune their tournament preparations during several technical and field sessions.
The RWC squad are also due to undertake several media, PR and commercial engagements before they fly off to Japan in two groups.
A number of management staff fly out to the Far East on Thursday, while the rest of the squad, including all 31 players and the remaining coaches and support staff, are scheduled to jet out of Johannesburg on Friday.
SA Rugby has laid on a super send-off event for the RWC squad on Friday at the OR Tambo International Airport in Kempton Park, Johannesburg. Rugby supporters are urged to arrive early and to come and show their support for the Springboks before they fly out to Japan – as the Boks believe we are truly #StrongerTogether.
Bok supporters will be treated to an exciting entertainment programme before the players arrive to walk through the fans towards their departure destination at the airport.
