Tickets for the event have not gone on sale and any online companies offering them are fraudsters, said Jurie Roux, CEO of SA Rugby.
“Until the official ticket ballot is launched by SA Rugby and the British & Irish Lions there are no tickets available,” said Roux.
“Any tickets being sold now are fraudulent and the buyer will have absolutely no right of entry to the venue on the back of them.”
“If supporters want to buy tickets they should register their interest at www.lionstour2021.co.za and only those who have officially registered qualify for the ballot, in which the ticket requests are made.”
The ballot process and sale of tickets has been postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. An announcement will be made in due course when the ballot goes live.
“The delay in launching the ballot does not stop the registration process and we are constantly encouraging supporters to register interest for the matches in South Africa,” said Roux.
Registration works as follows: Once your registration is complete, an automated email will be received for account activation. Correspondence will be sent to the registered user, advising the ballot process timelines.
Tickets for the Lions tour will be allocated on a similar ballot system used at most major global sporting events, which ensures a fair method for supporters to obtain tickets.
“All applications will be processed equally – registration and entry into the ticket ballot will not automatically entitle you to match-day tickets, but rather place you into a draw,” explained Roux.
“After the ticket ballot application phase has been completed the draw will take place by a computerized selection process and you will be notified of the outcome of the ballot and whether you have been successful in securing your preferred tickets.”
The British & Irish Lions, who tour South Africa once every 12 years, will play eight matches, including a three-Test series against the Rugby World Cup-champion Springboks.
More information on the revised sale dates for the ticket ballots as well as the supporter travel packages will be communicated in due course via www.springboks.rugby and www.lionstour.com. For more ticket information, contact Customercare@lionstour2021.co.za.
