After a tight first half, the visitors, who scored four tries to one, turned up the pressure after the break to claim full match points and retain second place on the north section standings behind the ISG Pumas.

The Leopards were coming off an impressive 81-8 drubbing of the Welwitschias in their last encounter while Griquas were edged 37-28 in a tough, top-of-the-table north section encounter against the ISG Pumas.

The home side got off to a promising start when their centre Tjaart Benadie sped over for the opening score of the game in the eighth minute. Flyhalf Schalk Hugo slotted the conversion.

Griquas leveled matters minutes later through a Chris Smit (centre) try and Tinus de Beer (flyhalf) conversion.

Hugo then landed two penalties to make it 13-7 before No8 Conway Pretorius scored on the half-hour for Griquas. De Beer added the two points from the kicking tee (14-13). But it would be the Leopards who would enjoy a narrow 16-14 lead at halftime thanks to another Hugo penalty.

Griquas assumed control of the match after the break scoring 17 unanswered points. There were tries by Smit and right wing Ederies Arendse. De Beer kicked both conversions and then sealed the deal with a penalty in 64th minute.
