CASTLE LAGER RUGBY CHAMPS

The Castle Lager Rugby Championship is an international rugby union competition featuring Argentina, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. The competition is operated via a joint venture of the four countries' national unions, called SANZAAR. In 2018, New Zealand won the Rugby Championship for the sixth time after a 35-17 victory over Argentina in Buenos Aires.

The history

The inaugural Tri-Nations tournament was held in 1996, and was won by New Zealand. The Springboks won their first title in 1998, and Australia their first in 2000. The first Castle Lager Rugby Championship was also won by New Zealand, who won all six of their matches in 2012, when Argentina joined the revamped competition. Since 1996, New Zeeland had won 13 championship titles, and South Africa and Australia both three.
