Pierre Spies was named captain of the Vodacom Bulls in 2012 and has done very well with the added responsibility. He is a very athletic loose forward, but also knows how to get stuck in when the going gets tough. One of the fastest players in South Africa, he is very explosive in the close exchanges and has the ability to break tackles and stay on his feet. He played in his 50th Test against England in Port Elizabeth in 2012.
