RIP - Darius Botha
February 13, 2018
SA Rugby president, Mr Mark Alexander, on Tuesday extended his condolences to the family of Darius Botha, who passed away on Monday, aged 62.

Botha was diagnosed with stomach cancer in February 2014 and had surgery to remove parts of his stomach, but the cancer returned in November 2017.

"It is with great sadness that we learned about the passing of Darius,” said Mr Alexander. “He fought a courageous fight and we would like to send our heartfelt condolences to his family.

“As a Springbok, he was also part of the greater rugby family, and we hope to find comfort in the knowledge that he lived a full life in which he inspired many."

Botha, who was a church minister, represented South Africa in 1981 against New Zealand and was Springbok No 522.

Schooled at Hendrik Verwoerd High School in Pretoria, Botha also played in five Currie Cup finals for the Blue Bulls. He was the brother of legendary Springbok flyhalf, Naas Botha.
