Yet another try-fest weekend of U20 rugby
June 12, 2017
The Down Touch Griffons Under-20 team again showed good appreciation of space and pace in the second week of the SA Rugby Under-20 Championship by beating SWD Eagles 57-27 in a high-scoring match at Outeniqua Park in George.

The Northern Free State side last weekend scored ten tries against Boland and again recorded more than 50 points, this time dotting down nine times in the match that saw them move to the top of the log in the eight-team tournament.

The Hino Valke and Steval Pumas, who played to a draw last weekend, both scored good wins. The Gauteng team won comfortably at home against Tafel Lager Griquas, while the Steval Pumas had a successful trip to East London, beating Border Bulldogs in impressive fashion.

The Griffons never looked like losing against the home side and held a comfortable 26-10 lead at the break. Scrumhalf Jason Oliver enjoyed the superiority of his pack and dotted down three times in the match.

The Hino Valke showed their attacking prowess again and his time the Tafel Lager Griquas suffered as a result of it.

After scoring 45 points against the Steval Pumas last weekend in an exciting draw, the red jerseys scored six tries in a very convincing 38-5 win over the visitors at Barnard Stadium in Kempton Park.

The home side had a strong start to the match and held a comfortable 26-6 lead at the break.

In East London, the Steval Pumas did not have it their own way in the first half, only enjoying a 13-7 lead at the break.

The second half saw more impact on attack from the visitors and they used both forwards and backs in combination when doing so.

This resulted in five second half tries and winning going away.
