The Toyota Free State Cheetahs ran in six tries to claim a bonus point 43-20 (halftime 24-10) Currie Cup win over the Vodacom Blue Bulls in Bloemfontein on Saturday evening.

Free State, playing the high octane brand of rugby they are renowned for, started the match straight out of the blocks with captain and centre Francois Venter crossing within minutes of the first kickoff.

Free State fullback Clayton Blommetjies added his name to the scoreboard after a Blue Bull's lapse in defence saw him score while prop Ox Nche showed a great turn of pace to score the home team's third try.

The Blue Bulls put together a good few phases in the later stages of the first half with lock Jason Jenkins making good inroads close to the line. Flyhalf Tian Schoeman set up a lineout after Free State infringed at the breakdown which saw flank Jannes Kirsten crash over.

Free State flyhalf Fred Zeilinga brought the curtain down on the first half when he slotted a long range penalty to hand his team a healthy 24-10 lead at the break.

Free State were guilty of ill discipline in the opening minutes of the second half which saw Schoeman convert a penalty goal but flank Uzair Cassiem put Free State back on track when he scored in the corner.

Free State continued their try scoring rampage when centres Venter and William Small-Smith combined well with Small-Smith adding another try to his team's tally.

The Blue Bulls second half was error strewn from the beginning but they did manage a late consolation try through flank Ruan Steenkamp who barged over the whitewash.

Free State added salt to the visitor's wounds when wing Ryno Benjamin ran a great support line to score the final try of the match. Replacement Neil Marais landed the conversion to hand the Free State Cheetahs a morale boosting 43-20 win.
