The Leopards turned in a fine performance to thrash the Vodacom Blue Bulls 51-26 (halftime 24-14) in their provincial tournament match at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria on Saturday.

The Blue Bulls have endured a miserable season, winning just a single match, while the Leopards had won three of their six matches.

The visitors outscored the Blue Bulls six tries to four while fullback Rhyno Smith ended with a personal tally of 21 points as he slotted six conversions and three penalties.

The Leopards opened the scoring as early as the fifth minute when inside centre Henko Marais went over for a converted try.

The Bulls struck back almost immediately when eighthman Hanro Liebenberg crashed over for a converted score.

But the Leopards had their tails up and they soon reasserted their dominance when their No 8 Jeandre Rudolph crossed for a converted try in the 19th minute.

The Blue Bulls managed to level the scores in the 26th minute when flyhalf Joshua Stander scored and converted his own try to make the score 14-14.

But it was to be as close as the Bulls came and the Leopards went to the break holding a 24-14 lead after a converted try from flank Marno Redelinghuys and a Smith penalty.

The second half was all one way traffic as the Leopards ran in further tries from Marais, outside centre Johan Deysel and replacement hooker Dane van der Westhuyzen while Smith slotted two more penalties.

The Bulls could only respond with tries from flank Renaldo Bothma and replacement centre Kurt Webster.
