Boland run rampant against Sharks
April 08, 2016

The Boland Cavaliers ran in five tries to three as they clinched an impressive 37-25 (half-time 22-13) win over the Cell C Sharks XV in their provincial tournament match at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium in Clermont on Friday.

The visitors were full value for their win after they had raced into an early 22-3 lead after just 25 minutes.

The tries were shared around by Boland with five different men dotting down for the visitors while fullback Nico Scheepers kicked 12 points courtesy of three conversions and two penalties.

Boland made all the early running with Scheepers kicking a third-minute penalty before flank Shaun Adendorff crashed over for an unconverted try three minutes later.

The Sharks XV opened their scoring thanks to a penalty kick from flyhalf Innocent Radebe before the Cavaliers struck again through converted tries from flank Shaun McDonald and outside centre Ryan Nell.

But the hosts fought their way back into the contest with left wing S’bura Sithole going over for a converted try in the 29th minute before Radebe nailed his second penalty as the Sharks XV went to the break trailing by nine points.

However, their fightback was short-lived as Boland took control in the second half with the prolific Danwell Demas scoring a converted try just two minutes after the resumption of play before flyhalf Adriaan Carelse dotted down on the 51st minute as Boland stretched their lead to 34-13.

The Sharks XV did show some fight at they scored two tries of their own, through flank Khaya Majola and outside centre Wandile Mjekevu.

But Scheepers had the last say in the match as he kicked a 71st-minute penalty to complete the scoring.
