A dominant Valke outfit romped to a 65-14 (halftime 24-14) victory over the Assupol Limpopo Blue Bulls in their North Section Vodacom Cup clash at the DP de Villiers Stadium in Sasolburg on Saturday.

The hosts ran in an overwhelming 11 tries, with a Jacques Verwey hat-trick the stand-out performance on the day.

Winger Sandile Ngcobo and inside centre Coert Cronje contributed a brace each, and the impressive display yielded a first win of the competition for the Valke as they jump to sixth in the North Section standings.

The result marked yet another difficult day for the men from the Limpopo, as they were once again consigned to a humiliating defeat that left them rooted to the foot of the table without a point on the board

It took just 12 minutes for the Valke to get on the scoresheet, as Ngcobo dotted down to get the wheels in motion. His second came after Verwey himself had got on the board, as the home side raced to a 19-0 lead inside the fist half hour.

However, tighthead Thulani Mathonsi was on hand to deliver some hope to the the Limpopo side, as he crashed over shortly after to narrow the gap to 12.

Verwey's second in the 34th minute clinched the bonus point for the Valke, but the visitors responded once again with a well-worked try from Koning Janse van Rensburg in added time of the first half, and, at 24-14, there was little between the sides as the players broke for the interval.

But it was to be one-way traffic after the break though, as Cronje's first score of the afternoon came just four minutes into the second half, and he had his second 14 minutes later as the score ballooned out to 36-14.

But the final 15 minutes proved to be carnage, as a beleaguered Limpopo outfit conceded five tries - including the third for the rampant Verwey - in a display that rather undermined the promise they showed in the second quarter, and they now have just three games remaining to seal a maiden victory in the competition.
