Vodacom Cup quarterfinal draw is confirmed
April 14, 2008
The quarterfinal draw for the 2008 Vodacom Cup has been confirmed following an action-packed final weekend of league fixtures. The eight remaining teams have a break this weekend before resuming the battle for the R 1 Million first prize on 26 April.

From the North section, winners the Vodacom Blue Bulls will host the fourth-placed Xerox Lions, whilst defending champions Wildeklawer Griquas, who finished in second place, are at home against the Platinum Leopards, who ended third in the section.

South section winners Vodacom Western Province, who finished the league phase unbeaten, will host the KZN Wildebeest, and the Vodacom Free State Cheetahs, who ended second, will be at home against the Boland Cavaliers.

The match venues and kick-off times will be confirmed by SA Rugby early next week.

The final weekend of league action produced a few upsets that denied teams a place in the knockout round. The BA Mighty Elephants, who were out of contention for a place in the next round at the start of play, came from behind to score a 38-36 win over the Valke and end their hopes of continuing. Likewise, the SWD Eagles won 50-12 over the Pumas to deny the Witbank side of a possible place in the last eight.

The Vodacom Blue Bulls secured top spot in the North section with a 50-8 win over the Border Bulldogs and holders Griquas had to settle for second place after playing to an exciting 23-all draw with South section winners Western Province.

Free State made sure of second place in the South section and a home quarterfinal after scoring a one-sided 80-3 win over the Griffons. The Boland Cavaliers clinched third place in the section after beating the Xerox Lions 41-33 and the Wildebeest ended fourth despite going down 32-37 against the Leopards, who claimed third place in the North section.
