New Points System for HSBC Sevens World Series
November 25, 2011
As the HSBC Sevens World Series gets underway on the Gold Coast, the IRB has announced an exciting enhancement to the season-long Tournament.

In a change to the points system at each round on the 2011/12 World Series, every team participating will now earn points towards the Series standings.

As part of this ranking enhancement a new third place play-off match between the two losing semi finalists has been added to the final day's play.

"Sevens is a global game and every team that arrives to play in each of the nine rounds of the World Series aspires to succeed in some capacity," said IRB Sevens Manager, Beth Coalter.

"It is only right that they should all take points away from each tournament, and this new system will also allow for more objective ranking of the teams come the end of each season.

"It is an extremely positive move forward for the game of Sevens and has the teams' full backing."
