Golden Lions demolish Valke
May 12, 2018

The Xerox Golden Lions XV ran in 10 tries to demolish the Hino Valke 68-12 (halftime 26-5) in an impressive SuperSport Challenge match at the Barnard Stadium in Kempton Park on Saturday.

The visitors cemented their place at the top of the North section of the Supersport Challenge and condemned the men from the East of Johannesburg to their third defeat in four matches.

The Lions secured their bonus point before the halftime whistle sounded after scoring three converted tries and a five-pointer against the solitary unconverted try from the home side.

The second half was all one way traffic, except for the one effort from the Valke, which resulted in a seven-pointer, the only score the home side were able to muster in the second 40-minute period.

Six converted tries in the second period gave the Lions a healthy points differential, which will aid them in their pursuit of anchoring top spot on the North section log come crunch time for the playoffs.

The Lions needed the bonus-point victory to keep the chasing pack at bay with the Vodacom Blue Bulls XV and the iCollege Pumas breathing down their necks.

The Lions face off against the Bulls next weekend while the Pumas have an easier home game against the Valke at the Mbombela Stadium.
