Benetton comfortably beat the Kings
October 07, 2017

Benetton Treviso comfortably beat the Southern Kings 31-3 in their Pro 14 clash at the Stadio Comunale di Monigo in Treviso on Saturday night.

The hosts relied on the boot of flyhalf Marty Banks who got the ball rolling with an early penalty. Benetton continued their dominance and increased their lead with another penalty.

The Southern Kings' struggles increased when they lost winger Sbura Sithole who got injured while competing for a ball in the air.

The Southern Kings' defence kept them in the game but what was costing them was their struggle at the breakdown and how the referee was interpreting the breakdown.

Marty Banks kept the scoreboard ticking with another penalty in the 31st minute to make the scoreline 9-0.

The Kings' defence was eventually breached when the hosts scored from a well weighted cross kick and Marco Barbini scored the opening try of the match.

The Kings finally got on the scoreboard through the boot of Pieter-Steyn de Wet.

In the second half Benetton continued their dominance and their hard work was eventually rewarded with a try from a superb scrum which resulted in Marco Barbini scoring the second try of the match.

The men from Port Elizabeth tried hard to make a comeback but their finishing let them down. With the score 19-3, the final nail in the Kings coffin was hit with some slick footwork by winger Marco Barbini who skipped out of an attempted tackle by Alshaun Bock and scored his second try of the night.

The hosts gave their faithful crowd one more reason to cheer when the burly Cherif Traore scored the final try of the match.

With the conversion being successful the final score was 31-3, with the winless Kings walking away from another bruising defeat.

Benetton 31 – Tries: Angelo Esposito(2), Marco Barbini, Cherif Traore; Conversion: Ian McKinley; Penalties: Marty Banks (3).
